Beaver Dominates Opener, Rallies Back to Complete Sweep Over New Kensington
Penn State Beaver paired a dominant offensive performance with a resilient comeback, cruising to a 13–3 win before erasing an early deficit to secure a 7–4 victory over Penn State New Kensington.
Monaca, PA - Penn State Beaver put together a pair of strong performances on Saturday afternoon, first rolling to a 13–3 five-inning victory before completing a comeback to defeat Penn State New Kensington, 7–4. In the opener, Beaver built a commanding lead early, scoring in each of the first five innings and turning a 4–1 advantage after three into a 10–3 margin before walking it off with three more runs. In the second game, Beaver erased a 4–0 deficit after the top of the first by responding with three runs in the bottom half, then taking control with a three-run third inning and adding an insurance run in the fourth to seal the comeback.
Offensively in game one, Beaver piled up 11 hits and drew six walks while driving in all 13 runs. Christopher Cann led the way by scoring three times and adding a hit, two RBIs, and a walk, while Benjamin Ogle went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs, and a walk. Philip Betz contributed two runs and two RBIs, and Andres Molinar finished 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and a double. Beaver also manufactured runs with three sacrifice flies and two sacrifice hits, and the lineup was aggressive on the bases with multiple stolen bases across the top and middle of the order. On the mound, Justin Perera went the distance in the five-inning contest, allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
In game two, Beaver matched its opponent with nine hits and produced runs throughout the lineup. Mason Hsu led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 day and scored twice, while Andres Molinar went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, including an RBI double that helped spark the decisive third inning. Philip Betz scored twice and drove in a run, and Beaver also got run-producing contributions from Jameson Stubbs (RBI single), Rheece Barone (RBI double), and two sacrifice RBIs from Benjamin Ogle and Nathan Doutt. On the mound, Kairu Fujinuma went the distance, allowing four runs on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts to earn the win.
Across both games, Beaver showcased a complete and resilient approach—combining steady offensive pressure, timely hitting, and disciplined plate appearances with effective pitching performances. In the opener, Beaver controlled the game throughout with consistent scoring, clean defense, and a strong outing from Perera to secure the run-rule win. In the second game, the turning point came in the third inning, when Beaver flipped a deficit into a lead with timely extra-base hits and maintained control behind Fujinuma, who settled in after early trouble. Together, the performances highlighted Beaver's ability to both dominate from the start and respond under pressure, capping the day with two convincing wins.
