Monaca, PA – Penn State Beaver Men's Soccer hosted Penn State New Kensington this afternoon in their last regular season game this year. They also took a moment to recognize their seniors before the game for all their hard work during their college soccer careers.
Fourth year players Jared Perusich (Conroe, TX) and Joe Saldivar (Darrington, PA) were recognized before the game. Both players are great leaders for the team and embody the true spirit any Penn State Beaver should have. As the match began both teams came out playing hard with playoff implications on the line. The first half of the game featured both teams getting multiple scoring chances. Penn State New Kensington was able to grab the first goal of the game from a corner kick where the ball bounced around in the box until New Kensington's forward was able to put the ball in the back of the net. After this goal New Kensington was able to put the pressure on Beaver for the rest of the half, but Beaver's defense stood tall and held the score at 1-0 until the end of the half. When the teams came out to start the second half New Kensington came out fast and was able to score their second goal of the game just three minutes into the half. New Kensington switched to a more defensive style of play after going up two goals. As the half went on Beaver started to take some more risks to try and get back into the game, but because of this New Kensington found some space behind the defense and scored to make their lead 3-0, which is how the game would end. Although Beaver was unable to find a win today, they still clinched a spot in the playoffs. The date and time for the game will be determined soon.
