Dominate Performance for Beaver Softball

Game 1: Penn State Beaver erupted early and never let up Friday afternoon at the Beaver Field House, rolling to a 19–1 win in a five-inning game. Entering at 6–18 overall (1–6 conference), Beaver flipped the script with a relentless opening, piling up runs through timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. The team scored in three of the four innings it batted while its pitching staff limited the opposition to just three hits.
The visitors struck first in the top of the 1st, but Beaver answered immediately and turned the inning into a decisive 10-run outburst. Kierstyn Mays tied the game with an RBI single before Mackenzie Boyd, Reese Riordan, and Mia Gomez each delivered run-scoring hits. Beaver also capitalized on defensive miscues and a passed ball to extend the rally and take a 10–1 lead. The momentum carried into the 2nd, where Beaver added seven more runs behind RBI singles from Haydan Baucan, Mays, Cheyenne Duhl, Boyd, and Gomez, along with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. After a scoreless 3rd, Beaver pushed across two more in the 4th on an RBI single from Boyd and a groundout by Charlie Cutcher, bringing the score to 19–1 before the game ended after the 5th.
Beaver totaled 19 runs on 18 hits with one error, highlighted by several multi-hit performances. Boyd went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, Gomez finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Duhl was a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI. Reza Benson and Riordan each added two hits, with Benson also doubling. Mays led the way in the circle, tossing a complete five innings with eight strikeouts while allowing one run on three hits and four walks; she also went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a sacrifice fly. Jaiden Patterson scored three times and stole two bases as Beaver consistently created and converted scoring opportunities. The win moved Beaver to 7–18 overall and 2–6 in conference play.
Beaver's performance was defined by its dominant start—17 runs across the first two innings—and steady execution the rest of the way. The lineup produced consistent hard contact, while the pitching staff limited opportunities and finished innings effectively. It marked one of Beaver's most complete offensive efforts of the season and a confidence-building result moving forward.
Game 2: Penn State Beaver continued its strong play with a 15–0 five-inning victory over Penn State Hazleton on April 17, 2026 at the Beaver Field House. Beaver again set the tone early, erupting for 10 runs in the first inning by combining timely hitting with pressure on the bases and taking advantage of defensive miscues. Reza Benson controlled the game in the circle, throwing a five-inning shutout as Beaver secured another run-rule win.
Offensively, Beaver stayed aggressive throughout. The 10-run first inning was fueled by RBI contributions from Cheyenne Duhl and Mackenzie Boyd, along with a two-run single from Haydan Baucan. Beaver added three more in the 2nd, highlighted by an RBI single from Jaiden Patterson and another two-run hit from Baucan to extend the lead to 13–0. After a quiet 3rd, Beaver added a run in the 4th on Benson's RBI single before closing out the 15–0 result in the 5th.
Beaver finished with 11 hits, drew five walks, and struck out just three times. Baucan drove in four runs, Patterson went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, and Benson added three RBIs while earning the win with five shutout innings (6 H, 2 BB, 8 K). Duhl contributed a 2-for-2 effort with two runs and an RBI, while Patterson, Kierstyn Mays, and Reese Riordan each recorded extra-base hits. Beaver also played clean defense, committing no errors. The victory improved Beaver to 8–18 overall and 3–6 in conference play, showcasing a complete performance built on offensive pressure, solid defense, and dominant pitching.
The result moves Beaver forward in its season and conference slate (8-18 overall, 3-6 conference), with a complete performance that combined pressure offense, clean defense (0 errors), and dominant pitching to secure the five-inning victory.
