Dominate Double Header For The Lady Lions
Penn State Beaver capitalized on key moments to secure back-to-back wins in convincing fashion.
Penn State Beaver powered through a pair of high-scoring wins, rolling to a 15–7 victory on Monday in Monaca, Pennsylvania, before securing a 14–6 win two days earlier on April 20. Across both games, Beaver combined timely extra-base hits, patient at-bats, and aggressive baserunning to overwhelm its opponent and control the tempo.
In Monday's 15–7 win, Beaver set the tone immediately. An early error led to two runs in the first inning, and an RBI groundout extended the lead to 3–0. The second inning turned into a back-and-forth battle, but Beaver responded to a five-run surge with three runs of its own—highlighted by Haydan Baucan's RBI fielder's choice and Reza Benson's two-run single to edge ahead 6–5.
After a brief lull, Beaver broke the game open in the fourth. Baucan's sacrifice fly started a five-run frame, followed by Cheyenne Duhl's two-run single and Mia Gomez's two-run double, stretching the lead to 11–6. The offense stayed aggressive in the fifth, where Benson drove in another run with a double and later stole home in a heads-up baserunning sequence. Beaver capped the performance in the sixth, as Baucan ripped a two-run double to extend the margin to 15–7 and end the game.
Benson led the charge, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBIs, while Baucan added four RBIs and two runs. Duhl contributed three RBIs, and Jaiden Patterson reached base repeatedly—scoring four times with three walks and a triple. Gomez added a key two-run double as part of an 11-hit effort supported by eight walks and multiple stolen bases.
Beaver showcased a similar offensive surge in a 14–6 win. After falling behind 2–0 in the first inning, Beaver answered immediately when Mackenzie Boyd tied the game with a two-run single. The visitors briefly regained the lead, but Beaver's offense began to build momentum heading into the middle innings.
That momentum erupted in the third, when Beaver scored five runs to take control. Reza Benson started the rally with an RBI single, Boyd followed with a two-run double, and additional runs crossed on a wild pitch and Mia Gomez's RBI single, giving Beaver a 7–4 advantage. The pressure continued in the fourth with four more runs, fueled by aggressive baserunning and consistent contact. Beaver added three final runs in the fifth, including Boyd's sacrifice fly and a two-run single from Gomez, closing out the 14–6 win. The team finished with 14 runs on 13 hits, maintaining steady production throughout the game.
Individually, Kierstyn Mays led the offense with three hits and four runs scored, while Boyd delivered a standout performance going 3-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs. Gomez matched the consistency with three hits and three RBIs, and Benson added two hits, an RBI, and three runs. Mays also went the distance in the circle, allowing six runs (three earned) while striking out three. Across both victories, Beaver's formula remained consistent: capitalize early, sustain pressure in the middle innings, and continue adding late. The result was a pair of complete offensive performances that highlighted the team's depth, discipline, and ability to turn momentum into decisive wins. The team will take the field on Saturday, April 25th at 2pm and 4pm at home against Penn State Fayette. For all things Penn State Beaver Softball check out beaverathletics.com!
